By the best-selling author of Don´t Let Me Go and Pay It Forward, Second Hand Heart is a devastating and unexpected story of love and loss--of learning to live for the first time and learning to live all over again. Vida is only 19, but she knows a lot about dying. Her weak heart has kept her on the edge of death her whole life. It hasn´t been much of a life. Thanks to her overprotective mother, Vida´s only friend is Esther, an elderly Holocaust survivor who lives upstairs. Vida´s heart is finally about to give out unless she can get a donor heart in time. Richard is 36 and blissfully married until he gets the call that his beloved wife has died in a car accident. His world falls to pieces. When Richard is invited to the hospital to meet the young woman who received his wife´s donor heart, he goes, even though he´s entirely not ready for it. Vida takes one look at Richard and feels she´s known and loved him all her life. Richard is horrified by her reaction and thinks Vida is just a sheltered and confused young woman. As Vida and Richard struggle to define themselves in circumstances neither ever thought they´d face, both begin to wonder if it´s possible that cellular memory, the idea that memories can be stored in individual cells, might actually be real. Could Vida´s heart retain some of the love Richard´s wife felt? Can a heart remember, at least for a time, on its own? 1. Language: English. Narrator: Khristine Hvam, Anthony Bowden. Starting with my childhood, and throughout my entire life, Istanbul provided me with a rich and broad understanding of storytelling.... I witnessed skyscrapers being raised to the skies around the glorious historical areas, yet ironically I also watched those skyscrapers being surrounded by jerry-built tenements. I sadly watched the spectacular fabric of this city getting more and more polluted over time, including its green hills; its beautiful woodlands were also pillaged and destroyed in a blink of an eye! I don’t believe any other populace in any other place has been as inattentive or negligent as Istanbul. I wrote over a hundred stories by using a plain, natural, and straightforward narrative style. Objectively, to the best of my abilities, I tried portraying the people of Istanbul, who are neither urban nor rustic folks but a mixture of both in their truest forms. 1. Language: English. What is the one true secret to weight loss? What is the correct way to make a grilled cheese sandwich? Is the designated hitter rule the salvation of baseball or its undoing? Is it rational to be an optimist? And - the question that haunts us all - should toilet paper unwind over the top of the roll or from underneath? In his first collection of essays, author Brian Kenneth Swain tackles hundreds of life´s questions while exploring a vast array of subjects - from tubas to two-year-olds, from field goals to child labor laws, and from high school shop class to the worst round of golf ever played. With an acerbic wit and an honest approach, Swain shares his perspective on such pivotal matters as how to ski without losing a limb or your self-esteem, how to correctly prepare and consume lobster according to Maine standards, and whether marketing ploys hypnotically convince consumers to replace perfectly functioning items without a second thought. Swain encourages a kind of tongue-in-cheek thinking that prompts us to take a second look at the world around us. The Curious Habits of Man shares an amusing glimpse at life as one man contemplates many of our greatest - and smallest - questions. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Steve Toner. If you´ve ever wondered what goes through the mind of a car boot stall holder, then there are two things you need to do:Listen to this book Get yourself some new hobbiesIf you´re thinking about setting up your very first car boot stall, then this book will be an excellent guide for you. If you´ve done one before, then the characters you´ll meet in here will be all too familiar to you. Whilst it would be all too easy to present this book as some sort of manual, its primary purpose is to make you wonder why anyone in their right mind would ever choose to sell at a car boot sale. The hours are unsociable, the weather unpredictable, and the profits are nonexistent. But do it right, and they´ll be the most hilarious and fun way to spend a morning. Paul J Rose took his assorted ´´treasures´´ to a selection of car boot sales close to his home. His mission was a simple one - to clear out his house. However, as time went on, something much more interesting happened; the exchanges that took place between buyer and seller became more and more ridiculous. Eventually, the desire to get rid of stuff took second place to the gathering of stories. People´s attempts at negotiation were frankly laughable, and it became clear that there was a pattern, and if that pattern could be recognised, then every car boot sale would be a joy. If you´re looking for a guide on how to make the most money at a car boot sale, then you won´t find it here. This is a lighthearted look at the people that choose to spend their early mornings in a field, looking to purchase other people´s junk. Well, ´´lighthearted´´ would be one way to put it; ´´rant on the part of a middle-aged malcontent´´ might be another. For the entrepreneur, your guide to making millions awaits you...in some other book. In here, we cling to a simple mantra: ´´These people are paying me to clean my house.´´ What you do need to know is that e 1. Language: English. Narrator: Paul J Rose.
