By the best-selling author of Don´t Let Me Go and Pay It Forward, Second Hand Heart is a devastating and unexpected story of love and loss--of learning to live for the first time and learning to live all over again. Vida is only 19, but she knows a lot about dying. Her weak heart has kept her on the edge of death her whole life. It hasn´t been much of a life. Thanks to her overprotective mother, Vida´s only friend is Esther, an elderly Holocaust survivor who lives upstairs. Vida´s heart is finally about to give out unless she can get a donor heart in time. Richard is 36 and blissfully married until he gets the call that his beloved wife has died in a car accident. His world falls to pieces. When Richard is invited to the hospital to meet the young woman who received his wife´s donor heart, he goes, even though he´s entirely not ready for it. Vida takes one look at Richard and feels she´s known and loved him all her life. Richard is horrified by her reaction and thinks Vida is just a sheltered and confused young woman. As Vida and Richard struggle to define themselves in circumstances neither ever thought they´d face, both begin to wonder if it´s possible that cellular memory, the idea that memories can be stored in individual cells, might actually be real. Could Vida´s heart retain some of the love Richard´s wife felt? Can a heart remember, at least for a time, on its own? 1. Language: English. Narrator: Khristine Hvam, Anthony Bowden. Paul Hannon moved to Tucker Springs for his girlfriend, but she´s left him with a house he can´t afford and a pantry full of useless gadgets. All Paul wants is to get back to normal, even if he´s not sure what that is anymore. When he wanders into Tucker Pawn for a gift to win her back, he meets El Rozal, pawn shop owner and all-around cynic. El Rozal doesn´t do relationships, especially not with clueless straight boys still pining for their ex. El may make his living dealing in castoffs, but that doesn´t apply to men. Still, when Paul starts clearing out his old life, pawning kitchen equipment he never wanted in the first place, El is drawn to Paul in spite of himself. Paul and El have nothing in common except a past full of disappointments. There´s no reason to believe the two of them could fit, but in El´s line of work, one man´s junk is another man´s treasure. When it comes to love, El and Paul may learn that secondhand doesn´t mean second best. Publisher´s note: This novel is part of the Tucker Springs series, which do not need to be heard in order. 1. Starting with my childhood, and throughout my entire life, Istanbul provided me with a rich and broad understanding of storytelling.... I witnessed skyscrapers being raised to the skies around the glorious historical areas, yet ironically I also watched those skyscrapers being surrounded by jerry-built tenements. I sadly watched the spectacular fabric of this city getting more and more polluted over time, including its green hills; its beautiful woodlands were also pillaged and destroyed in a blink of an eye! I don’t believe any other populace in any other place has been as inattentive or negligent as Istanbul. I wrote over a hundred stories by using a plain, natural, and straightforward narrative style. Objectively, to the best of my abilities, I tried portraying the people of Istanbul, who are neither urban nor rustic folks but a mixture of both in their truest forms. 1. Language: English. When your fairy godmother threatens to enslave you with a curse - when a malevolent piper solves your rat problem but steals your children - when you seek revenge on the prince who turned you into a frog - who can you turn to in your hour of need? The band of scoundrels known far and wide as the Bastard Champions - the swashbuckling trio who travel a world of legend, seeking adventure and righting wrongs - as long as there´s enough gold to be earned. They are Jack, the seemingly unkillable leader whose ever-present grin belies a dark past; Marie, who fights with fury but battles more fiercely to control the beast within; and Frank, the master of logistics, whose cloak hides horrific scars that are far more than skin-deep. As they slash and scheme through kingdom and village alike, the Bastard Champions uncover tantalizing clues to their ultimate quarry: the powerful Blue Fairy, who has made each of their lives a living hell. Second Hand Curses adds a dash of sly wit and a heaping portion of action to the fairy tales you thought you knew. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Scott Aiello, Marc Vietor, Tavia Gilbert.
